I just received the certification in the mail allowing me to sit for the patent bar exam! I must schedule and take the examination between 1/16/2007 and 04/16/2007.
I agree with the lawyers who interviewed you. From what I can tell, your profession is one with a fairly rigid class structure. It would be incredibly awkward for people to treat you as a paralegal. Sure, some people work their way out of the mailroom, but the path from mailroom to executive is one that takes years-- and you're already well past the mailroom section of the journey.
Ahuva, I agree about the rigid class structure comment.
I just wanted to have a salary already and statistics for a Patent Paralegal in that specific area where the company was located predicted that the salary would be around $70K-$75K, minimum.
For a starving lawyer who has graduated law school, who has passed his bar exams but who has not yet been admitted into the bar BUT who is still being charged interest upon interest on his HUGE STUDENT LOAN (akin to a mortgage) DEBT, [and who is being supported by his wife]...
$70,000 for menial work "below my class structure" sounded very attractive to me. -Zoe
Zoe, Be patient just a little while longer. Yes, your student loan might very well be the size of my mortgage (or more) but in a few more months you'll be making much more than 70-75K. Concentrate on getting the best score possible on the patent bar. I'm sure your wife has her eye on the end goal and isn't overly concerned about whether or not you're bringing in a paycheck this very second. Relax; you only have a few more months to go.

Have you decided when you want to take it?
